Development and initial production of Eurosam's air-defence systems was funded by the French and Italian ministries of defence on a 50/50 basis. The Royal Saudi Arabian Navy became the first non-European export customer when it selected Eurosam to provide a ship-based air-defence system.

Subsequently, the United Kingdom adopted a variant of Eurosam's naval medium-range system to equip its Royal Navy ships.
