		Development and initial production of Eurosam's air-defence systems was funded by the French and Italian ministries of defence on a 50/50 basis. The Royal Saudi Arabian Navy became the first non-European export customer when it selected Eurosam to provide a ship-based air-defence system. Subsequently, the United Kingdom adopted a variant of Eurosam's naval medium-range system to equip its Royal Navy ships. Main characteristics of the variants ordered to date are as follows : France Navy (Marine Nationale) - SAAM-F self-defence system for Charles de Gaulle-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier (system in operation). - PAAMS for Horizon-class air-defence frigates Ordered: 2 Planned: 2 Army (Armee de Terre) SAMP/T medium-range ground-launched system to replace Hawk air-defence systems. Planned order: 6 Air Force (armee de l'Air) SAMP/T medium-range system to replace Crotale short-range air-defence systems. Planned order: 6     Italy Navy (Marina Militare Italiana) : - SAAM-it self-defence system for Nuova Unità Maggiore (NUM) "Andrea Doria". - PAAMS for Horizon frigates Order: 2 Planned: 4 Army (Esercito Italiano): SAMP/T medium-range ground-launched system to replace Nike Ajax and Hawk air-defence systems. Planned order : 6     Saudi Arabia Navy (Royal Saudi Naval Forces) SAAM air-defence system for three F-3000S (modified French La Fayette-class) frigates. Ordered in 1997 All equipment on bord since September 2002.     United Kingdom Navy (Royal Navy) Principal Anti-Air Missile System (PAAMS) for Type 45 air-defence destroyers. Planned order: ammunition for 12 PAAMS UK systems.
