EUROSAM is headquartered in Fontenay aux Roses in the south of
Paris; there is also a simulation test Center in Rome. The staff
totals about 100 people.
EUROSAM is the prime contractor for the French and Italian government
contracts, and also is responsible for co-ordination, subcontracting,
management and export marketing.
Its ownership is shared between MBDA France, MBDA Italy and THALES.
These three companies, among Europe's largest and most experienced
defence contractors, are both shareholders and subcontractors
to Eurosam, as they have been assigned primary responsibility
for the system's basic building blocks :
- MBDA France has primary responsibility for the Aster 15 and
Aster 30 missiles. These share the same kill vehicle, featuring
the patented "PIF-PAF" dynamic control system, but differ by the
size of their booster stage. Their maximum range varies from 30
km to 100 km.
- MBDA Italy is responsible for the fire control unit based on
the EMPAR multi-function radar and the Naval and ground-based
vertical launcher systems.
- THALES (France) is responsible for the fire control unit based
on the Arabel multi-function radar.
Government oversight and contract management is the responsibility
of a joint program office known as the DP/FSAF OCCAR based in
Issy les Moulineaux near Paris.
